ROAM’s mission is to connect children with nature and adventure through child-led play.
“Come with me, where dreams are born, and time is never planned” – Peter Pan
When most of us reminisce on happy childhood memories they are often outdoors, spontaneous and fun!
Whatever the weather, nothing beats the squelch of mud under your feet, the sound of birdsong in the air and finding that perfect stick to splash into a stream.
The adventures are endless.
Exploring nature is exciting. It encourages curious minds and has a huge impact on improving our wellbeing and connection with the environment.
‘I enjoyed making new friends, exploring new places and being with friends to adventure!’ F, aged 7
We created the ROAM project with a purpose; to reclaim children’s natural desire to be adventurous and explore the outdoors, free from the restraints of feeling ‘supervised’.
We’ve all been told, ‘The fresh air will do you the world of good’! Well, we wholeheartedly believe this philosophy, and the important role free play has on children’s physical, mental and social development.
Our fantastic team of parents and volunteers create an environment where parents feel comfortable with their children freely roaming. Let the adventure begin!
‘Such a wonderful, welcoming session, free play is vital to our children’s mental health. These sessions provide such a wonderful learning experience’. Mum of 7-year-old free roamer
ROAM is currently being piloted with sessions in south Birmingham. Our aspiration is to develop a model that other communities can adopt. Follow us on Twitter @roam_kids for updates or to get in touch.
